Calhan Paint Mines By M.A. Coletta

The Calhan Paint Mines, a colorful, beautiful, little known place.

In the town of Calhan, tucked away down a lightly traveled road, is a canyon of colors once visited by indians and possibly prehistoric man.

Off of Paint Mine Road, this picturesque spot could be missed in the blink of an eye.

Driving by, I wouldn't have noticed those magnificent colors, nestled between rises in the land,  if I didn't take the left fork in the road.

And what I would have missed was an opportunity of a life time.

The Paint Mines, a part of the El Paso County parks system, offer the eye a dance through a rainbow of colors.
